Two matronly ladies have this to say to their travel agent: “We’d like to get completely away from civilization, near some nice shopping district.” Indeed, there are people who are unlikely to get out of their comfort zone, even when they travel to new places. Most people want to go to places like a pampered tourist—from airport transfers to good hotels to shopping hot spots. On the other hand, there are also a group of people who would take the less beaten path, so to speak, and explore “un-touristy” places and go on an adventure. But if they want the pampering of tourist hubs and the adventure of exotic locales, they better surf the internet, and while they are at it, apply for online payday loans to step-up their travel budget.

Australia’s top airline Qantas and budget airline Jetstar Pacific are increasing the number of flights to Asian destinations such as Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam. Nowadays, jetting off to new places is a cinch. And, with the economic slowdown hitting worldwide, international airlines are vying to get a big share of frequent passengers by offering huge fare discounts and other flight goodies. From $500 to $600, an eager employee could take out that amount from an instant payday loan and book a flight to Bali, Indonesia or Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. If these excited travelers would be more creative, they could search online for added discounts to further lessen their airfare cost, or save some of their travel budget on accommodations and tours.

For travelers to Bali, when talking to their travel agent about their airfare flights, better ask around for other tours as well. Most tour companies present a good list of places to go to. However, before eager travelers jump at the first tour company that offers a “good deal”, it is advisable to do a little comparison among the adventure or tour packages available. While at it, Bali is known for water recreation such as swimming and surfing. If a group of traveling friends and family want a bit of adventure, they should try Gitgit Waterfalls, Bali’s highest waterfall since it is over 100 feet! For those who want to keep dry, Bali is also famous for great furniture buys. However, a word of caution, travelers should make sure that they set a limit to their shopping or else they could go broke even before the end of the trip having spent their entire payday loan!

Those who want to go to Vietnam should be sure to see the famous Mekong River floating markets. Thousands of boat shops gather there, creating a colorful, moving mall. Eager travelers could also soak up some history by going to the Cu Chi tunnels. They could explore the intricate tunnels used by the Viet Cong during the war with the Americans. For those insatiable shoppers, they should go to Hanoi to view the endless selection of art galleries. With so many places to see, and so little time to see them, wise and thrifty travelers should plan ahead and expect a great trip.

by Sean Teahan

Top Ten Vacation Spots - The Travel Destinations You Should Visit

Are you looking for top ten vacation spots? By choosing a romantic destination for your honeymoon, you can recuperate from your long wedding preparations, relaxing with your new spouse.

Beach Front Property: Beaches are a popular choice for honeymoons, thanks to the soothing sun, sandy beaches and umbrella drinks. Popular beach destinations include Aruba, the Bahamas, the Bora Bora Lagoon Resort in French Polynesia, the Hawaiian islands and St. Lucia.

Beautiful, relaxing and rejuvenating, a beach based honeymoon is sure to provide more than just a tan. Just make sure both you and your spouse are happy with a relaxing, laid back holiday.

Big Lights, Big City: If you aren't the type to laze on a beach, an action packed big city honeymoon might be a better option. Take in a play, hit the museums, dine out or hit the tourist traps together.

Big cities ideal for honeymoons include Atlanta, New York, San Francisco or Las Vegas. And Walt Disney World in Orlando isn't just for kids. It can be a fun for newlyweds too. Be careful to not plan too much though.

Overseas European Tour: Going overseas can be more costly but will create very memorable honeymoon. If you want to experience a romantic new culture with your new spouse, try Paris, France or Venice, Italy. Train tours and cruises travel all through Europe, making it easy to visit more than one country on your honeymoon.

Exotic Locations: If you want a true adventure, try a more exotic location such as Bali, Belize, Thailand or South Africa. It requires more planning but will leave you with plenty of exciting stories to tell when you get home.

Your honeymoon is one of the most important trips you'll take in your lifetime together. The honeymoon vacation marks the beginning of your life as a married couple. Choosing the right location for you and your spouse is crucial to creating memories you will always cherish. by Mary Kidwell

Lions Legacy Lives On

After one of the most gripping Lions Test Series in recent times, thoughts are already turning to Australia in four years, but the Lions legacy still lives on in South Africa for Soweto Rugby Club, after Gulliver's Sport Travel unique event here celebrated the culmination of the 2009 tour.

The event, held prior to the final Test in Johannesburg, came about after Gullivers' 2000 strong Lions supporters were invited by the President of South Africa Rugby Union, Oregan Hoskins to Soweto Rugby Club.

The morning began with local Soweto school children being treated to a coaching clinic and TAG tournament from South African rugby legends Peter Muller and John Allen. Then it was the turn of the seniors, when the Gullivers Barbarians took on Soweto Legends and won 25-5. The Barbarians XV were made up of Gullivers' supporters who had volunteered to play during their tour, a Lions tradition on Gullivers' tours, since 1989.

Off the pitch, Gullivers' Lions fans were treated to traditional Soweto musical and dancing acts and brunch in the form of a South African 'Spit Braai', before a convoy of 34 police escorted coaches headed off to Coca-Cola Park to be a part of Lions 28-9 win. In way of thanking Soweto RFC for hosting the event and to give something back to South Africa's grassroots rugby, Gullivers contributed towards the new changing facilities at the club and donated masses of kit to the players and children. Gullivers' managing director, John Davison said: "There was a great atmosphere at Soweto RFC and everyone enjoyed the opportunity to see a local rugby club and be part of the legacy we have left behind."

As for how the children in Soweto liked it: "The children are learning an exciting and interesting form of rugby. It's a modified form of rugby," said Zola Ntlokoma, the manager of the Soweto Rugby Club, which is involved in organising coaching clinics for the learners. Less than a week after the 2009 Lions Tour has ended, Gullivers has already seen unprecedented interest for the 2013 Lions Tour in Australia, attributed to the Lions breaking their seven Test losing streak.

Although it will take time for the full match schedule to be confirmed, more than likely the 2013 Lions Tour in Australia will start on 1st June in Perth. In total there will be ten games, of which seven will be provincial matches and three test matches. As well as Perth, it seems that Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane will be included as match venues, although there are other possibilities like Canberra, Cairns, Newcastle and Townsville.

Apart from the matches there will also be tours available such as exploration of the Great Barrier Reef and trips to Ayers Rock and the Whitsundays which will play a big part of these Gullivers Lions Tours. This will be a trip of a lifetime, so it is a good idea to think ahead and start planning it soon. As if this is not exciting enough there will also be tour extensions available which will more than likely include destinations such as Bali, Singapore, Hong Kong, Fiji, Bangkok and Penang.

The tours will include guaranteed match tickets and will be organised into small friendly touring groups, with the best hotels and airlines. There will be celebrity tour hosts to add to the flavour with their expert analysis. There will be rugby social events organised and tour managers who will keep the show running smoothly. by Siobhan De Burca

Travelling

Everyone need traveling nowadays. Many hotels have their own private stretch of beach with a Beach club or restaurant along. Kuta and Uluwatu are areas in South Bali well known for their good surf which makes Bali one of the most popular surf destinations in the world.

2) Padi fields
The beautiful terraced green padi fields are another must see for a visitor to the island of Bali. Many tourists will automatically head to Ubud, about 45 minutes from Bali Airport to stay in a hotel and villa overlooking the padi fields. The best padi field scenery is at Jatih Luwih and Tegallalang which are not far from Ubud.

3) Galleries and Museums
Beautiful paintings can be found in Ubud, home of many of Bali's well known and aspiring artists. The peaceful scenery and tranquility of the area must be an inspiration for the remarkably detailed paintings these artists create and whose works are displayed in the numerous art galleries and museums found in Ubud village. Some of the more well known galleries are The Agung Rai Museum of Art, Neka Museum, Antonio Blanco Renaissance Museum, Komaneka Gallery and Seniwati Gallery of Art by Women just to name a few.

4) Dance and Music
Dance and music plays a very important part of the life of a Balinese. Every ceremony and festival is almost always accompanied by traditional dance and the soothing sounds of the Gamelan. You will find many locations in and near Ubud where you can watch these dance performances. Dancers wear glittery and colourful costumes, executing to perfection elaborate hand movements and facial expressions to convey stories of the Ramanaya. You can watch the elegant Legong Dance at the Ubud Palace in central Ubud, or see other entertaining performances such as the Warrior Dance and Kecak Dance at other locations within the town. Wayang Kulit, or Shadow Play performances are also a common evening entertainment for the local Balinese and tourists alike.

5) Yoga and Spa Treamtents
There is a growing number of world class spa facilities and health resorts in Bali especially in the Ubud area. Using natural herbs and indigenous products, you will have a wide variety of spa treatments to choose from and enjoy. Spa treatments are ideal for relaxation and what every person who needs a break from this fast paced world of work, family and stress will surely appreciate. A variety of massages using traditional, Aryuvedic, Shiatsu and hot stones are on the menu for you to choose from. Traditional treatments such as Boreh and Lulur are common. Facials, foot massages, healthy meals and private spa facilities are also available at some hotels and salons. Holistic resorts offer yoga programs and have resident teachers who will guide you to peace of mind.

6) Festivals and Ceremonies
Religion plays a central role in the life of every Balinese family. The island has hundreds of temples, for which each and every one has a temple anniversary, known as Odalan. On this day, the villagers visit the temple for prayers and socializing. It can be considered a community event to bring the people together and promotes good feelings between villagers. With the Balinese Hindu religion comes many daily practices such as placing offerings such as trays of flowers called Canang Sari in temples, shrines and symbolic locations to ward off evil and please the Gods. Nyepi Day, which is the Balinese New Year is a day that is spent in silence in reflective prayer and meditation. The days before Nyepi however provide many opportunities for a tourist to witness ceremonies and rituals including the noisy and colourful Ogoh-Ogoh procession which happens one day before Nyepi, on Melasti Day. This procession is a colourful display of the creativity of the Balinese where towering papier mache ‘monsters’ are paraded through the town in noisy processions in efforts to chase away any evil.

Galungan is another major festival for the Balinese which at the end of 10 days is marked by Kuningan Day. This festival occurs every six months so you will have the opportunity to see it in another half year if you miss the first round. During this time you will see the Barong Dance procession which goes through the village performing in front of shops and houses as an act of purification. Cremations are another village affair where the entire family and friends of the deceased are involved. The body is carried from the home grounds through the village to the cremation site where it is place in a towering sarcophagus and burnt to the ground.

7) Sea Sports
Bali has some of the most colourful and interesting sea life you will ever see. Well known dive sites are located in Amed and Tulamben where there are ship wrecks, in Menjangan Island in the North West, and Pandang Bali and Lembongan Island in the East to name a few. Nusa Dua and Sanur are ideal for snorkeling but there are many other areas as well.

8) Visit Active Volcanoes
Indonesia has hundreds of volcanoes and Bali has some of its own famous ones as well. Kintamani town is where you will see the 2800m high Mount Bali, a popular tourist destination in Bali. The volcano has a large caldera lake and it is possible to go on a sunrise hike to the top of Mount Batur if you can wake up early enough! Mount Agung, the location of Bali's largest and most sacred temple, Puri Besakih, is Bali's highest and most sacred mountain at 3142m high. Pura Besakih, the Mother Temple is where Bali's most important ceremonies are held and worth visiting if you have the opportunity to go on an East Bali tour especially in April when the temple has its anniversary.

9) Land Adventure Activities
Apart from the southern tourist towns, Bali is an island still very much in its natural state compared to other tourist destinations. You will soon realise that there are many locations that provide the ideal terrain for exciting adventure activities. Bali is not only Kuta and Nusa Dua. Travel north and you will find out what the real Bali has to offer – culture, spectacular scenery and experiences that modern tourist towns with shopping malls are totally devoid of.

The rivers, mountains and jungles are all places where you can experience Bali away from the tourist crowds. White water rafting down the scenic Ayung or down the heart stopping Telaga River rapids is one of the more popular activities for tourists who come to Bali. A mountain bike ride from Kintamani down to Ubud through the padi fields and small villages with friendly locals is another leisurely activity for families and individuals alike. Bali is home to the Taro Elephant Park, complete with accommodation, activities and elephant fun for all ages. You can ride an elephant through the jungle, marvel at their intelligence and let them make you laugh when you visit the Taro Elephant safari park in Bali. Quad driving will take you through the jungles and rougher terrain. Canyon tubing where you sit in a floating tube and coast down a river through the jungle is another fun activity. A new attraction, the Bali Safari and Marine Park is a unique blend of wildlife conservation and culture. You will be able to see wildlife in their natural surroundings and learn about the ancient Balinese culture at this tourist attraction.

10) Shop till you drop
Finally what the first thing tourists tend to do on any trip and most certainly to Bali is to shop. You have Kuta Center, Galeria Nusa Dua, Matahari in Legian and Ubud Market where you will find bargains of all sorts. The Balinese are well known for their creative and artistic skills evident in the numerous arts and crafts found throughout the island. Many craft factories are found in Tegallalang and the surrounding area. Skilled silversmiths in the village of Celuk, sell their creations in eclectic shops in Ubud but you will be able to buy their jewelry at slightly better prices. Sukawati art market is where you will find many of the fabrics used in Balinese clothing as well as hand made crafts such as woven baskets at good prices. Crafts and statues are made from natural products found on Bali such as coconut wood, bamboo and volcanic sand stone. Masks and puppets make interesting gift items. You will also find many unique home decor items such as table runners, lamp shades and wall decorations to give your home a touch of Bali style when you return. As far as nomadic with the little ones is fretful, not all airlines are formed equate. No, I don't mean the stage of ritual you can insist, as this seems to be of fairly a high raze whichever Asian based chief airline you select. In our experience, Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Air New Zealand, and Emirates all treaty great mass when you are nomadic with kids.

However, the big difference comes in how much different carriers prefer to rate for the younger ones. Some carriers, for example, charge 10 percent of an adult fare, for infants, roaming on your lap, lacking a seat. At first, this may sound like a average deal. However, if you ponder the truth that this 10 percent is calculated as a percentage of a -Full Published Adult Fare- outlay, you may find that you are paying as much for your infant's air fare, as you are for your own discounted fare! The good reports is, not all airlines use this pricing procedure, and if you store around, you can rescue manually hundreds of dollars even before you defer home!

Also, do keep in object, that many airlines will propose unique -Child Meals-. Some, such as Singapore Airlines, do also propose different menus for different age groups.

Similarly, for toddlers and adult kids, it merit checking what is on propose in language of departure entertainment. Some airlines will have keen children's cartoon channels, with a large mixture of entertainment options, while others may not. If you are roving long-heave, this unaided could make a colossal difference to how well your Asian holiday kicks off.

Transportation on the Ground The value and shelter of ground transportation varies immensely from one Asian Country to the other. However, as a common lead of thumb, do not think taxis to bestow offspring security seats, and in many parts of Asia, even charge cars may not have the infant shelter seat decision.

The good reports is, across most of Asia, metered taxis are plentiful, and relatively well maintained, with effective seat belts. When you are in Singapore, you can require (or even demand); wholly functioning seat belts both at the front and back passenger seats. In other parts of the district, you may find that seat belts have been removed, on principle, because 'they get in the way'.

So, if you are adamant that you would like infant safety seats while holidaying in Asia, you may ponder bringing your own, or option one up, when you land at your destination.

Probably with the exemption of Japan, Korea and Taiwan, facilities on community string military are of an alterable value, and except you are open for gold, and staying on the Palace on Wheels in India, or a singular First Class tour between Beijing and Shanghai, you may want to plan well, and take all your essentials on enter with you.

Food Matters While most westerners find Asian food (especially South Asian, or South East Asian food), rather piquant, this is not necessarily a flow when roving with the younger ones. Most hotels and restaurants will cook food for the little ones separately, lacking the spices. Also, if in distrust, homely noodles, or natural rice with some vegetables on the wall is always speedily presented as a good stopgap apportion. Depending on how off the beaten imprints you decide to trek, you are more than apt to find, old favourites such as fish-fingers, chicken nuggets, and hamburgers in most parts of Asia.

One word of caution on the food front is the liberal use of MSG (Mono Sodium Glutamate) in Asian cooking. This food additive is also used in the west (generally packaged crisps/chips), and in principle is no more dangerous than many of the E facts we may consume daily. However, in many Asian countries MSG is used very profusely, especially in soups and food with sauces. In China, Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia, to name a few countries, you can demand that your soups and sauces will hold MSG by duck. Many parents who live and travel in Asia complain that extreme MSG causes dehydration, lassitude, and mood swings with some younger children (and many adults are also found to be sensitive to excessive MSG). If nervous, appeal for your food to be prepared without any MSG, or choose MSG-free restaurants, increasingly existing across the area.

Bare Necessities In common, availability and the rider of known toilets in Asia disappear much to be preferred. Of course, there are exceptions to this judge. Singapore and Japan for example, typically supply some of the cleanest communal conveniences to be found anywhere in the world. Also, in each country, there are certain locations, such as hotels and airports where hygiene values are leaving to be at international levels. However, it is good tradition to always include your own tissues, and wet wipes with you when traveling in Asia. Also, to address this quandary, in many Asian cities, you can also find special antiseptic wet-wipes, which are very practical when industry with some of the lesser municipal conveniences.

It also appeal noting that, restaurants/auburn-shops do not always offer their own toilets for guest use, and more than probable split facilities with other establishments. This is firm for even superior malls, and good feature restaurants in hygiene conscious Singapore. So, the old ruse of, grabbing an unwelcome cup of coffee or a juice at a restaurant, just to be able to use the facilities is not always a liquid in Asia.

Similarly, availability of baby altering rooms varies immensely across the state. In Singapore, and Hong Kong for example, varying facilities are easily vacant in most shopping malls, one almost on each bewilder. However, when you are off the beaten footstep, even some good quality hotels may not offer spawn varying facilities.

Breast Feeding in Public As a common rule of thumb, if you absolute to breast nourish in public, regardless of how discreet you are being, imagine to be stared at. The good news is, across most of the territory, this is no sinister than bombshell and pastime on the part of the locals. If in disbelief, you may want to flee to a subtle crook, back of a restaurant, or baby shifting facilities.

My Child is a Model! If your children are under four or five existence old, and/or blonde or with easily curly hair, require to be approached in parts of Asia by equal strangers wanting to take photos of your youngster!

Again, there is nothing sinister about this appeal. They just want to capture the -cute part- and disclose this amazing icon with their friends and families.

You will typically be approached by Japanese, Korean, and Chinese ladies, who will want to pose with your offspring, and take each other's photos. However, there seems to be no age or gender maximum to this attract, over the time, our little ones have been photographed by dealings people in suits, restaurant chefs, and the odd octogenarian in small villages.

Asia's Love for Children One thing is for confident. Wherever you go to in Asia with your youthful family, you will find the locals ever caring and kindly interactive with your little ones. Asian's like children, they darling their own children, and the children of external tourists. My opinion is, make the most of this, and tolerate your children to relate with the community population, be it your cabin players at your charter Bali lodge, or a chef in a Chinese restaurant, or the old woman selling flower garlands faint a temple in Thailand!

Most important of all, don't feel like you have to stay till the kids are adult before you can visit Asia. Have a go; both you and the children will adore this colourful part of the world.Enjoy your Asian holiday. Many favorable returns... by Jenna Sawin

Top Ten Vacation Spots - The Travel Destinations You Should Visit

Are you looking for top ten vacation spots? The compact size of the island also makes it easy to get to the various starting points without having to travel long distances. The starting point of many activities is centered on the Ubud region so this is a good place to base yourself if you plan to do more than one activity.

White Water Rafting
Take white water rafting for example. Most tourists tend to sign up for what everyone else is doing and that would be Ayung River Rafting. This is definitely a fun activity and highly recommended to enjoy the scenic route along the Ayung River which you wouldn't otherwise get to see. On this rafting activity, you will wind through deep valleys, pass Balinese Hindu shrines, see monkeys playing, or even catch the odd farmer walking his cow to the river for some water. For the more adventurous, you might like to go on the Telaga Waja river adventure. This rafting trip takes you to the foothills of the sacred Mount Agung where you will, according to the brochure from the tour operator, navigate down the Telaga Waja river through torrents, twists and tight turns on a heart stopping adventure.

River Kayaking and Canyon Tubing
There is more than one way to travel down one on Bali's famous water ways though. River kayaking is another one although this would suit someone more experienced and not ideal for total beginners. Canyon tubing however is a little more laid back and good fun for the family. This is an activity where you drift down a canyon in an inflatable tube. The location for this is north of Ubud town in Payangan, a little known area where tourists to Bali rarely tread. Over there, the Siap Stream opens up a whole new world of fun and adventure allowing visitors to float down a narrow canyon passing through thick forested areas.

Kintamani Cycling
If getting wet is not your cup of tea, then you might like to go on a Kintamani cycle tour. Several tour companies in Bali offer this activity where you are picked up from your hotel and driven up to the scenic Kintamani town located on the rim of the Mount Batur caldera. Breakfast will most likely be offered in your package at a restaurant where you'll have ample time to take as many photos as you wish before starting. The ride is downhill of course since you can't get much higher here, and takes you along broken tarmac roads through villages, past coffee plantations, traversing through paddy fields all the way to Ubud where a buffet lunch is usually provided. The smaller tour operators may offer you a more local experience by inviting you into their homes as part of the tour and cooking a traditional Balinese meal for lunch. They'll take time to explain their culture, point out interesting sites and might even go on detours if they feel it is worthwhile.

Wildlife and Elephant Safari Excursions
Bali is home to a world famous Elephant Safari Park. The Elephant Park in Taro is a huge complex and the home of 27 Sumatran elephants. Here you can watch and sit atop an elephant on a safari ride through the Taro forest. There is also a restaurant and the park has a purpose built safari style lodge. It is an outing for the entire family to have fun watching the elephants paint, play and bathe, and spray water on unsuspecting tourists which can be quite amusing depending on your sense of humour and what you are wearing at the time. The latest attraction in Bali is the Bali Safari and Marine Park. This safari park is unusual in that while you normally you would expect to only see wild animals at a wildlife safari, here you will also see part of Bali's ancient past and be able to watch cultural dances. The park is a unique blend of conservation and Balinese culture. There are tram rides through the park and fun activities such as animal rides and shows for the children. You can purchase a package which includes lunch or dinner.

Horse Riding and Camel Riding
Enjoying a breathtaking horseback ride along the coasts of Bali or camel riding along Nusa Dua beach are two other fun activities you can do to experience Bali on four legs instead on four wheels! Riding along the black volcanic sand beaches on Bali's east coast, though villages that still preserve old traditions and along paddy fields can be something quite romantic if you are a couple especially if you choose an evening ride from one of the west coast stables. The camel ride takes you on along the pristine white sand beaches of Nusa Dua. I don't know if you will be sitting very much after sitting on a camel's hump on a one hour ride on the beach but it is definitely some fun judging by the smiles and laughs you see on peoples' faces.

Paragliding & Bungee Jumping
Now these two activities aren't for the faint hearted or those wearing pace makers but they are worth mentioning. For those of you who have not heard of the sport, paragliding is not the same as parachuting. Paragliding is a sport where the pilot is strapped in a sitting position to a harness that is attached to a fabric wing and runs forward usually down a slope to launch the paraglider. The stunning beauty of Bali's coastlines offers the paraglider breathtaking views those at ground level won't have the pleasure of enjoying. The AJ Hackett Bungee Tower is located on Kuta Beach in Bali, over a swimming pool located in a nightclub. It is the only place where you can bungee jump in the night with hundreds of party goers down below. We don't know if this is something desirable for every one, but if having 2000 party goers below you unnerves you, try a jump during day time when the club is closed and you'll be able to see the beach as well!

There are other activities of course, but these listed provide a choice of excitement whether you are an individual, couple or a family with young children looking for something to do other than lounging by the pool. You will still get a sun tan, but you'll have to put in some energy to get it and I'm sure it will be worth it for the fun you'll have. by Trias Bali Travel

The speediest flights to Bali from Europe, the USA and Australia

There are numerous flights to Bali and depending on where you are coming from it can take just a couple of hours or almost a tour around the world.

For those travellers coming from the USA it must be one hell of a flight since it takes almost 24 hours to get to this beautiful island.

As you might have expected already there are unfortunately no direct flights to Bali from any of the airports in the USA. If you travel from New York the best option is to fly to Hong Kong with Cathay Pacific or American Airlines and then transfer on a flight with Hong Kong Express Airways straight to Bali. This 'fast' option will take approximately 22 h 15 minutes.

From San Francisco it takes surprisingly 21 hours with Delta Air Lines (operated by China Airlines) where you have to make a stop-over at Taipei before continuing your journey to Bali with China Airlines.

Flights to Bali from Los Angeles go through Singapore if you're looking for the fastest option. It will take you 21 h 35 minutes to fly to Bali. Flights from Los Angeles to Singapore are operated by Singapore Airlines and the last stretch is operated by Garuda Indonesia.

Unfortunately there are no direct flights from Europe to Bali either. If you're coming from Amsterdam the fastest option for you is to take KLM to Kuala Lumpur and then transfer here on an AirAsia flight to Bali. Total flight time is approximately 16 h 25 minutes.

London Heathrow flights to Bali are operated by British Airways to Singapore from where Singapore Airlines flies the last stretch to Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar, Bali. This is also the fastest option and will take you around 16 h 30 minutes.

The best option to take from Frankfurt am Main airport is to fly with Lufthansa or Singapore Airlines to Singapore with a connecting flight to Bali. This will take 16 h 20 minutes. For flights from Paris Charles de Gaulle to Bali it's the same; take Singapore Airlines and it will save you lots of time.

Luckily for the Australians there are direct flights to Bali from the following Australian cities; Darwin with flights operated by Airnorth, Qantas and Garuda Indonesia (2h 30), Perth with flights operated by Ozjet, Qantas and Garuda Indonesia (3 h 35), Melbourne with flights operated by Jetstar, Qantas and Garuda Indonesia.(6hours) From Sydney there are also direct flights operated by Jetstar and Qantas and the fastest flying time is 6 h 25 minutes.

Have a save trip and see you on the beautiful island of Bali! by Matt Verbaan

Rihanna Tickets-Indonesia Will Have to Wait For Rihanna

Rihanna was scheduled to perform in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia for a crowd of 6,000 on Nov. 14 but had to cancel the tour over security concerns. A spokesperson for the event organizer Show Master Live, Dive Purnomo, said the 20-year-old singer was scheduled to perform for a sold-out crowd but changed her mind while in Australia. The nation was among several that issued a travel advisory to citizens in Indonesia after the executions of three Islamic militants convicted in the 2002 Bali bombings. The warning issued while Rihanna was down under came after the men called on followers to carry out revenge attacks if they did in fact receive the deaths by firing squad sentenced to them. Purnomo said she hoped Rihanna will come back to Jakarta to perform for her many fans in January. To see her when she hits the road stateside, try StubHub. The best place to buy and sell Rihanna tickets is http://www.stubhub.com/rihanna-tickets/.

Before "Umbrella" propelled Rihanna into the realm of major stardom, the singer was born Robyn Rihanna Fenty in 1988 in Saint Michael, Barbados and despite winning various beauty and talent contests at a young age she assumed that fame was well beyond her reach. Pop producer Evan Rogers, who has produced for stars like Christina Aguilera, Jessica Simpson and others, was vacationing on the island when he met Rihanna and sent her to the studio with his partner Carl Sturken to make some demo tapes. Newly appointed Def Jam president Shawn Carter (aka Jay-Z) heard Rihanna's demos and was instant enthralled, signing her on the spot and Def Jam released the single "Pon de Replay" off the album Music of the Sun in 2005. The song peaked at number tow on the Billboard Hot 100 and spawned another popular single, "If It's Lovin' That You Want."

After a successful debut album, Rihanna continued her trajectory to the top with an even more successful sophomore album, A Girl Like Me, which spawned popular singles "S.O.S.," "Break It Off" and "Unfaithful." For her third effort, Rihanna chopped her signature long locks and dropped the good-girl image promoted by stereotypical Caribbean lingo and sugar-coated ballads. The aptly-titled Good Girl Gone Bad was a dance/pop album led by the number one single "Umbrella." Good Girl Gone Bad also featured collaborations with Timbaland, StarGate and Jay-Z and boasted hit singles "Disturbia" and "Take a Bow." Rihanna recently made another notch on the Billboard charts when she was featured on T.I.'s smash single "Live Your Life." The career of Caribbean sensation Rihanna is still young (and so is she, at just twenty-years-old!) but with the backing of Jay-Z and a unique vocal style that blends her heritage with urban pop, she is sure to be around for a long time. Rihanna hit the rod this last year as to open for rapper Kanye West on his Glow In the Dark tour and will most likely be touring again so be sure to get your Rihanna tickets soon!by Kirby Brooks

There are group holidays available for every age and every interest - from a gourmet tour of Italy, an indulgent golfing vacation or trekking through some of the lesser known wonders of the world.

For anyone who is spellbound by the many varied cultures of the world or fascinated by history, why not consider touring the Cambodian temples of Angkor. These ancient temples hold an air of mystery that you can't feel just by looking at photos or TV shows. After a day of sight-seeing, enjoy an elephant ride and shop for unique gifts before enjoying the many delicious flavours of local restaurants.

Another great way to enjoy delicious gourmet delights is a luxury cooking holiday in some exotic location such as Vietnam, Tuscany or Bali. Not only can you enjoy some unusual and tasty treats, you can also take cooking classes to learn how the locals blend and cook with exotic spices and produce. Just imagine yourself inhaling the aromas of freshly baked baguette topped with locally produced cheese and a drop of vino while overlooking the stunning vineyards in Southern France. All this can be enjoyed in the company of your newly-made friends.

Fitness-lovers can also indulge in a range of travel packages designed specifically for the solo traveller. What better way to discover the rolling green pastures and rugged coastlines of Ireland than a cycling/walking vacation? Not only will you be amazed by the breathtaking scenery and tantalising tastes, you will also love the friendliness and sparkling characters you meet along the way.

Meanwhile, nature enthusiasts can escape the everyday hustle and bustle of city life with a wide range of nature and wildlife holidays, and you don't have to rough it at all! There are many wildlife adventures available where you will spend time exploring the wilds with fellow nature enthusiasts in the comfort that you are accustomed to. If you can see yourself tracking a snow leopard in the Leh Valley of India, riding high upon an elephant in Thailand, watching giraffes grazing peacefully in Africa or getting to know an Orca in Norway, there is no need to miss out just because you are a solo traveller.

Perhaps you would prefer to spoil yourself with something a bit more exhilarating and indulgent... something like a luxury tour of Germany in a classic Porsche 911. There is something special about crystal clear waters, sun-drenched beaches, refreshing cocktails and tropical palms that make it so easy to relax and allow yourself to enjoy endless hours of pampering bliss.

There is also a vast range of luxury train tours available where you can take in the spectacular scenery in places as varied as Mongolia, Scotland, Peru, Africa, Venice and England, just for starters. Many of these trains are exquisitely designed with total comfort and extravagance in mind. In fact, you might feel like you are staying at a five star resort.

With so many luxury travel deals available for solo travellers, you don't have to miss out. Many hotels have their own private stretch of beach with a Beach club or restaurant along. With beaches, come waves and with waves come surfers from all over the world. Kuta and Uluwatu are well known for their surf which makes Bali one of the most popular surf destinations in the world. All the coastal towns from Canggu, Seminyak and Legian to Kuta share the same long stretch of beach. In Kuta it would be more crowded with many street hawkers but if you go to other areas, you will have more peace and quiet if this is what you are looking for.

2) Padi fields
The beautiful terraced green padi fields are another must see for a visitor to the island of Bali. Most tourists will automatically head to Ubud in Gianyar Regency, about a 45 minute drive from Bali International Airport to stay in a hotel and villa overlooking the padi fields. But if you do find yourself in this area, the best padi field scenery is at Jatih Luwih and Tegallalang, not too far from Ubud. This is best seen via a half day or full day tour which will most likely take you to other scenic sites along the way.

3) Galleries and Museums
Bali has a large concentration of art galleries and museums.

Dance and music play a very important part of the life of a Balinese. You can watch the elegant Legong Dance and listen to the Gamelan orchestra playing at the Ubud Palace in central Ubud, or see other entertaining performances such as the Warrior Dance and Kecak Dance at other locations within the town. Wayang Kulit, or Shadow Play performances are also a common evening entertainment for the local Balinese and tourists alike.

5) Yoga and Spa Treamtents
With the luxurious and romantic resorts come the ultra indulgent and sensuous spa treatments at the growing number of world class spa facilities and health resorts appearing all over Bali. Using natural herbs and indigenous products, the amazing variety of spa treatments available in Bali is enough to get you hooked and wanting more. Holistic resorts offer yoga programs and have resident teachers who will guide you to peace of mind and nirvana.

6) Festivals and Ceremonies
Religion plays a central role in the life of every Balinese. The island has hundreds of temples, for which each and everyone has a temple anniversary, called Odalan. On this day, the villagers visit the temple for prayers and socializing. It can be considered a community event to bring the villagers together. With the Balinese Hindu religion comes many daily practices such as placing offerings such as trays of flowers called Canang Sari in temples, shrines and symbolic locations to ward off evil and please the Gods. The Balinese new year, Nyepi Day is a time which many tourists like to visit Bali to witness the noisy and colourful Ogoh-Ogoh procession or simply see them being built in the days before Nyepi.

Nusa Dua and Sanur are ideal for snorkeling but there are many other areas as well.

8) Fly like a bird or Travel to higher altitudes
Paragliding is a sport not many are familiar with but with the beautiful coastal scenery, this sport is becoming more and more popular. If flying free like a bird is not your cup of tea, another option is a helicopter tour and book a heli transfer to your hotel for a view of the terrain along the way. The cost of heli tours are not for the average tourist but if you want to try something different, viewing Bali from this perspective is very exciting and you will get to see places no one else will see, not even the locals, such as the very top of Mt Agung, coastal scenery that is difficult to reach and much more.

You will soon realise that there are many locations that provide the ideal terrain for exciting adventure activates. The rivers, mountains and jungles are all places where you can experience Bali away from the tourist crowds. White water rafting down the scenic Ayung or down the heart stopping Telaga River rapids is one of the more popular activities for tourists who come to Bali. Mountain cycling through the padi fields and villages from Kintamani is another leisurely activity for families and individuals alike. How about an Elephant Safari? Bali is home to the Taro Elephant Park, complete with accommodation, activities and fun for all ages. You can ride an elephant through the jungle, marvel at their intelligence and let them make you laugh when you visit the Taro Elephant safari park in Bali. Nowadays we have quad/buggy driving and even canyon tubing where you sit in a floating tube and coast down a river through the jungle. Horse riding and camel riding are other fun activities you can enjoy. A new attraction, the Bali Safari and Marine Park is a unique blend of wildlife conservation and culture.

10) Shop till you drop
And of course there is shopping and more shopping to do. In Celuk, you will find skilled silversmiths who sell their creations in eclectic shops in Ubud. Sukawati art market is where you will find many of the fabrics used in Balinese clothing as well as hand made crafts such as woven baskets at bargain prices. Crafts and statues are made from natural products found on Bali such as coconut wood, bamboo and volcanic sand stone. Masks and puppets make interesting gift items. You will also find many earthy coloured home decor items such as table runners, lamp shades and wall decorations to give your home a touch of Bali style. Furniture items are often available at attractive prices compared to if you were to purchase them from outside of Bali.

So there you are, a list of many things you can do in Bali. Relax, get fit, have fun, gain new experiences and most of all, a memorable holiday. And if you count them up, you've got a lot more than 10 things to do there. This is by no means an exhaustive list but more than enough for a 3 to 7 day trip to this wonderful and magical island of the Gods. by Trias Bali Travel

Cruising The High Seas: In Luxury And In Style!

You awaken refreshed in that soft queen sized bed after a good nights sleep in your well appointed luxury suite, the phone rings softly with your personalized home serviced secretary reminding you of your spa treatment in 30 minutes, smiling you hushed “thank you” not whishing to leave the comforting feeling on that pastel colored satin sheets, you slowly stretched got up and walk around your domain inspired like nobility, passing the quality wood finished Victorian drawer as you get ready in a chic hot number inspired by the cool summer weather, pausing to look at that antique looking mirror revealing a young woman of 53 years as the soft glow of the nearby chandelier seem to compliment those subtle skin, then after passing a long wide carpeted corridor draped in expensive art, an enchanting melody seems to excite you leading to your Asian inspired spa treatment reminding you of being in Bali, Indonesia. SeaWalker Bali has a special diving system that lets you get a close up view of the Bali ocean life. You actually walk on the ocean floor, to a depth of 15 feet, without getting your hair wet! Unlike traditional SCUBA diving no certification is needed. Your tour will include pickup from your hotel, transport in an air conditioned coach or minivan, professional instruction, safety approved equipment, insurance, refreshments and lunch. All you need to bring is a towel, sunscreen, swimsuit, and money for a video of your sea walk. The cost is just US$69 and instruction is provided in both English and Japanese. During your 30 minute sea walk you can expect to be surrounded by a large variety of colorful fish and sea life.

From the depths of the ocean to the top of a pachyderm. Bali is home to the Elephant Safari Park. Over 20 rescued Sumatra elephants live and play at the park. Here visitors are encouraged to get up close and personal with the elephants. Elephant shows are offered throughout the day, during some the elephants even paint. At the Elephant Safari Park you can touch and feed the elephants. The park is also home to the Elephant museum which houses a wide variety of elephant exhibits and information, including the only mammoth skeleton in Southeast Asia. To top off your trip to the elephant park, take an elephant tour and explore the nearby jungle from the back of a majestic pachyderm. Enjoy the elephant park and know that you are helping save the endangered Indonesian elephants, as a portion of all proceeds goes to relocation and breeding programs for Indonesian elephants.

Now that you've tried the easy adventures, it is time to step it up a bit. There are some fabulous whitewater rafting in Bali. The river scenery is amazing. During your rafting trip you will travel through gorges where cliffs soar high above you. This is interspersed with lush primary rainforests and spectacular waterfalls. The spectacular scenery combined with exciting white water make for a Bali adventure you will not soon forget. Two of the more common rivers to raft on are the Ayung River and the Telaga Waja River. The Ayung River has over 28 class II and III rapids interspersed with calmer areas where you can view waterfalls, lush forests, and steep cliffs. The Telaga Waga River is more of a thrill ride with continuous rapids from start to finish. Experienced guides will make sure you have a fun and safe trip.

So when visiting Bali make sure you do more than just enjoy the beaches. I've touched on just a few of the adventures that can add a little spice and excitement to your trip. In addition to the the adventures mentioned here, Bali also offers bungee jumping, trekking to volcanoes, and mountain biking. So get out there and enjoy the natural beauty of Bali while adding some excitement to your trip.

For more information please visited http://www.baliexoticbreeze.com by Herman Maulana

Indonesia - A Hidden Treasure Trove

With its incredible diversity, India is a feast for the senses for people around the world, with its colour, character, philosophy and organised chaos. All my life I have revelled in this and considered myself very fortunate to be a part of it. However, it has made my search for such diversity and vibrancy elsewhere much harder.

Having planned some time off to travel last year, my wife, Sophia, and I narrowed the list of places we wanted to visit to South America or Indonesia; and when a good friend related fascinating stories from Indonesia, it seemed like a sleeping giant that the world knew little about so we decided to go and see it for ourselves.

Consider some of these facts: The largest archipelago in the world with about 18,000 islands, Indonesia stretches along the equator for more than 5,000 km. Almost 60% of Indonesia's land is forested and it has more than 500 volcanoes - 12% of which are still active! The fourth most heavily populated country in the world after China, India and the United States with close to 250 million people, comprising some 300 ethnic groups who speak an estimated 600 languages and dialects.

Part 1 Bali - the island of the Gods!

As a first time visitor to Indonesia, I was excited as well as a little nervous. It's a massive country, spread over thousands of kilometres. So like India, yet so unlike India, with its endless islands forming a chain along the equator.

Indonesia to me was a slightly incomprehensible mix of a remarkably beautiful tropical paradise and danger; with communal troubles and civil disturbances, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, and earthquakes. During our trip we hoped to find a fascinating reality that lay between those two opposing themes.

The excitement stemmed also from the fact that we had a month to spend there exploring these marvellous islands; home to active volcanoes, spectacular beaches and unique wildlife, like the Komodo dragon.

We started our trip in the relative comfort of the well developed tourism infrastructure on the island of Bali. In fact only thing that was difficult was trying to get a reasonably priced flight from New Delhi, as we had left it so late! Everything worked out finally and an uneventful Malaysian airlines flight later through Kuala Lumpur, we landed in Bali at Denpasar airport. The landing was spectacular as the plane comes down close to the white sandy Jimbaran beach; as you fly in, all you can see is the sea coming closer and closer until a few seconds before touch down the runway is suddenly visible.

As Indonesia has recently relaxed its visa regime for Indians, it was possible to get a visa on arrival - as an Indian passport holder, it is still a novel experience to travel to countries and get a visa on arrival! Laos, Thailand, Hong Kong (interestingly enough one needs a visa for China though), Cambodia and Maldives are a few of the others.

It was a hassle free experience and one can straight away see the advantages it brings to tourism and business travel. This is even more important in light of the Indian Tourism Board's efforts to push a similar proposal through for visitors to India.

Having pre-arranged some budget accommodation in the nearby beach town of Sanur, we hired a taxi to get us there. Bali's excellent tourism infrastructure made it an easy and painless process, we didn't even need the Indonesian we had been learning, a language much easier to learn than many.

Bali, appropriately called 'the island of the gods' is an excellent example of the religious and cultural diversity which exists in Indonesia, and consists predominantly of Hindu communities. By contrast the island of Java, where the capital Jakarta is located, is predominantly Muslim and the island of Flores (where we headed to later in our trip) is mostly Christian.

The widely spread islands with their mix of peoples, cultures and religions means that Indonesia has faced a similar problem to India in terms of language. Bahasa Indonesia is the national language but interestingly has faced similar challenges in many parts of the country to that with the adoption of Hindi as the national language in India. Indeed in Bali, Balinese is widely spoken.

The Balinese worship the various gods of Hindu mythology and are all as familiar with the Mahabharatha and the Ramayana as many Indians are. Each house is in fact considered a minor temple, adding further to the astounding statistic of some 20,000 temples on this small island of no more than two million people.

Offerings are made twice daily to the gods of the house and to the gods honoured in small shrines everywhere. As you drive around Bali, the sight of women carrying rice-and-flower offerings on banana leaves is common. Indeed, the word Bali, dating from the 9th century, means "offering."

Sanur - rather unfairly nicknamed 'snore' by us - was a very sleepy town, that had begun to lose its charm through its efforts to pander to all kinds of tourists. Our sense of discovery, lead us to search for the real Bali and we headed to a small island, Nusa Lembongan, about two hours away by boat.

Nusa Lembongan is one of 3 islands that sit across the Badung Strait on the Southeast coast of Bali along with Nusa Ceningan & Nusa Penida. These 3 islands are somewhat impoverished, relying on seaweed farming, cattle and other low-return activities, with tourism the brightest light on the horizon. The boat ride across the Badung Strait was smooth to begin with, but as we had been warned, the straits are extremely deep and there is always a large swell in the middle -finely illustrated by the teenage girl sitting behind us unable to keep her breakfast away from the fish!

Although we had to get off at the main jetty, we had made up our minds to make our way to Mushroom Bay, an amazing white sand beach which we had spotted from the boat. Getting there meant either taking a small, but expensive, motor boat taxi, or hiking with our heavy back packs up and downhill for a couple of hours.

Of course, having decided on the water taxi option, we couldn't find one until a booming Australian drawl asked if he could help. Indeed he was the owner of the water taxi company who had been living on Nusa Lembongan for years. Mushroom Bay was every bit as pretty close up and we booked ourselves into some Balinese style lodging for a few nights.

Breakfast by the beach is a luxury for anyone and we certainly indulged at the rather aptly named but predictable Bali Café. There was a sense of exclusivity to Mushroom Bay which was only disturbed at about mid-day for a few hours by day trippers from mainland Bali. We spent that time exploring the island and the first time around decided to do a walking tour. Incredibly greenery, and some stunning beaches, were our reward although after a while the humidity made the walk more of an effort than we would have liked. And, of course, temples and offerings were everywhere.

The next day we decided to explore a bit further by hiring a motor cycle, with my wife bravely (according to her!) agreeing to ride pillion. The roads were not great and extremely steep in places, but off we set off. It is hard to lose one's way around the island and we made it to the other side of the island, stopping off to admire the views and when stopped by friendly inquisitive children.

Our plan was to visit the other two neighbouring islands, if possible, and were told we could drive our bike across a narrow bridge. The bridge was indeed narrow but what worried us even more was the approach ramp - a small miscalculation of a few inches and the probability was that we would miss the bridge and land in the sea. As not-so-brave adventurers, we decided that I try it alone without my passenger. Success!

Driving through Nusa Ceningan, it was apparent that the island was much poorer than Nusa Lembongnan; the difference was tourism. Residents of Nusa Ceningan survived mostly through sea weed farming and when the trade wasn't going well they had a difficult life.

We stopped at a site where there were clearly plans to build a resort. Most of the structure and layout were in place, but now had been left to rot. As we were enjoying the views and thinking, how wonderful it would be to resurrect the resort, and would it ever be feasible, a man appeared from behind the buildings and came over. Suddenly worried that we were trespassing and that there was no other soul in sight, we tried to apologise and move away. But he was very friendly and told us about the plans for this place and how it had all gone wrong when his foreign business partner decided to pull out when tourism in Bali went into a tailspin after the bomb attacks several years ago. At last our few phrases of Bahasa Indonesia had come in useful! That, with English and body language had helped us communicate.

Having had a relatively quiet and relaxed introduction to Indonesia we were ready to make our way back to mainland Bali and get intrepid in pursuit of the Komodo dragon and to see whales in the remote village of Lamalera, in one of the eastern most parts of the archipelago.

To be continued..... by Vineeth Purushothaman

GALUNGAN DAY

Next month, on 20 August 2008, the Balinese Hindu will be celebrating Galungan Day.

Galungan Day is one of the Hinduism biggest ceremony in Bali which is celebrated in every six month according to the Balinese calendar. Most of them are originally Balinese, some are Javanese, Flores, Timor, Sumba, Sumatra, Celebes, Irian Jaya who were born in BALI or leave in this Island for years.

SUBAK AN ORGANIZATION OF FARMERS IN BALI

A new story from BALI about “SUBAK” an organization of farmers in Bali.
The word “subak” was originally found in Kediri-East Java a Hindu Kingdom in 14th century and then brought to Bali by the Hinduism when this Kingdom was conquered by the Moslem and kept until nowadays.

Subak is an organization of farmers in an area where rice fields are located to manage water to irrigate their rice fields, includes water supply, and to build a temple.

Tour Rafting, etc

1
Rafting di Sungai Ayung
Rafting di Sungai Ayung memberikan pengalaman yang tak terlupakan selama liburan di Bali. It is the first time you will travel together after you get married. It should be a very romantic vacation. Although the tradition is that the groom should plan for the honeymoon, there is indeed no reason for you to follow this tradition and it will be better if you two can plan for the honeymoon together.

You should plan the honeymoon together

As discussed above, the best way to plan for you honeymoon is to plan it with your husband-to-be. Every decision both of you make for the honeymoon should be of mutual consensus. All the decisions should be agreed by both of you. You have to bear in mind that it is the honeymoon of you two. There is no point to end up with arguing during your honeymoon.

The destination is the first thing you need to think about

You can virtually choose any place for your honeymoon destination. The key is that you should choose the destination based on both of your preferences. An adventure to Antarctica will be perfect if you would like to have a white and exciting honeymoon. All the penguins and natural sceneries will bless you for your honeymoon. And such an honeymoon should be an extremely memorable one.

To some others, honeymoon should be relaxing. In this case you may not choose Antarctica as your destination. You may go to Bali for your honeymoon instead. The sunshine and beaches are undoubtedly marvelous. You can also consider India or Nepal if you would like to experience different cultures.

The season in your destination is also very important

You will also need to consider the season in your honeymoon destination. It will not be a wise decision if you plan to go for a hiking tour in Nepal during the monsoon season. You need to pay even more attention if you choose to go to Antarctica. There is nearly no way to go to Antarctica for us in winter (in the southern hemisphere). However, places such as northern Brazil and Indonesia will render less problem because they are on the equator.

You also need to consider the budget

Without any surprise, you also need to consider the budget for your honeymoon. Again, I will suggest you to forget the tradition that the groom will pay for all the expenses. You should plan for the budget together.

The number one issue that will affect your budget is the destination you choose. Traveling to a country far away from your country is certainly more expensive. However, you can try to squeeze more budget for your honeymoon by saving money on your other wedding items.

It is not easy to plan for your honeymoon. The key is that you should planning for the honeymoon together with your husband-to-be. The honeymoon is meant to be romantic and you can enjoy the time of being together with him. by TM Lung

Sunbathe, Snorkel, or Tour the Sites on the Big Island at Kona

Hawaii's Big Island region of Kona offers travelers a place of scenic beauty and relaxation during their Hawaiian vacation. With its exotic beach resorts and bays, fishing villages, rainforests, and plantations, Kona invites visitors from around the world to settle in and soak up the charm of this quaint Hawaiian paradise.

The main town in north Kona is Kailua-Kona, which is a busy fishing village with a popular harbor that attracts charter boats, tourists, and commercial fishermen from all around. The village's waterfront has a popular shopping strip which includes restaurants, shops, hotels, and historical sites. One can also tour the Hulihe'e Palace, which was built in 1838 as a resort for Hawaiian royalty.

The town hosts two major sporting events each year - the Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament and the Ironman Triathalon.

Other Regions in North Kona

Also in north Kona are the coffee regions such as Honalo, Holualoa, and Kainaliu. The Holualoa Village is a popular arts and crafts center. To the south is the Magic Sands Beach, also called the Disappearing Sands Beach, which disappears when the waves come in winter. You can go swimming and bodysurfing in summer. Or, you can hand-feed reef fish or go snorkeling in Kahalu'u.

Other Places to Visit in Kona

The Kealakekua Bay is another popular place for swimming, snorkeling, and diving. This is where the famous British Captain James Cook died in 1779.

There's a little town called Captain Cook, located on the bay, where visitors can see a monument for the captain and explore other historic sites. Further south in Kona are the scenic rainforests and another fishing village called Miloli'i.

Activities in Kona

Visitors can enjoy a number of activities in Kona such as deep sea fishing, watching dolphins and whales, hiking on mountain trails, and more. Kona offers a variety of shops and restaurants as well as delicious coffee varieties that are grown and harvested right on the island! For the outdoor lover, there are hiking or biking trails to gorgeous waterfalls and volcanoes. Those who want to stay dry while relaxing at sea can take a Kona boat cruise or glass-bottom boat cruise.

Kona Accommodations

Kona offers a variety of lodging options to fit anyone's budget. Here are just a few hotels in the area: Kona Seaside Hotel, King Kamehameha's Beach Hotel, Royal Kona Resort, Castle Kona Bali Kai (Condominium Resort), Kona Coast Resort, Luana Inn, and Holua Resort at the Mauna Loa Village.

If you're looking for slow-paced fun and relaxation, be sure to book your next trip to Hawaii on the Big Island's beautiful region of Kona!. by Jim Dornfeld

Adventure Travel in Indonesia

Although the wily jungles of Indonesia are slightly tamer than the days of the Borneo headhunters, there are still many options for the modern day thrill seeker. Whether trekking in the jungles and mountains of the vast archipelago, diving in some of the most biologically diverse waters in the world, or visiting with some of the few remaining tribal groups in the world, Indonesia can still live up to its unfettered past.

From the snow capped peaks of Papua to the smoking volcanoes of Java, Indonesia presents any trekker with a wide array of choices, regardless of skill level. The further a field you plan to go, the more valuable you will find using a tour agency to arrange your trip. Tour agencies often get better deals on national airline tickets and can arrange for transportation and accommodation in areas where such amenities are scarce. Papua, the easternmost province of Indonesia, is unfortunately experiencing periods of civil unrest, so be sure to get updated information if you plan to set off there. The snow covered Carstensz Pyramid, locally known as Puncak Jaya, is the highest mountain in Papua. Please note - the trek up Carstensz Pyramid is for the experienced climber. For those looking for something challenging, but without the need for carabineers, try the third highest peak in Papua, Trikora Mountain. Indonesia requires all trekkers in Papua to obtain a climbing permit, usually arranged by your tour company. Trek

king can be combined with a visit to one of the few remaining tribal groups on the island to experience first hand the wonder of what it means to live off the land.

If you like diving, the blue waters of Indonesia, teeming with marine life of all shapes and colors, are not to be missed. Some of the best diving in the world is found in Indonesia and options come in all price ranges, from a quick dip off the coast of Bali to a two week liveaboard that will take you to areas otherwise inaccessible. Among the most popular dive spots for those wanting easy access, as well as beach resorts, is Bunaken Island off the coast of North Sulawesi. Bunaken has suffered some damage to its coral reefs from blast fishing, but much is still alive or recovering through the efforts of local conservation groups. If you prefer a liveaboard, there are many operators to the Komodo Islands, Sulawesi’s Wakatobi and Lembeh Strait, Flores, and Alor, to name a few. Shop around for the best price and definitely check up on the company or you might find your accommodations less than desirable. Once you get in the water though, expect to be awed by teeming barracudas, colorful cuttlefish, and mantas.

For the eco-tourist, the options are endless. From orangutan spotting and jungle trekking in Kalimantan to Komodo Dragon watching on the shores of Komodo, options vary by budget and time frame. The orangutan population continues to dwindle every year and some of the money garnered from eco-tourism goes to support foundations and local groups that work to save them. Although the number of visitors is limited each year, tour companies can arrange a visit to the famous rainforest study area of Tanjing Putting National Park and Camp Leakey in Kalimantan (formerly Borneo). A visit to the Ministry of Forestry’s feed station might earn you the chance to interact with the orangutans directly. Accommodation and transportation are best arranged beforehand as flights can vary throughout the year. Another popular ecotourism destination is Komodo National Park which includes the three large islands of Komodo, Rinca, and Padar as well as several smaller islands. A visit to this area can be combined with a dive trip as th

e waters in the reserve are home to an estimated 900-1,000 marine species. The Komodo Dragons themselves, giant monitor lizards, are relatively easy to spot, but you’re guaranteed to find them safely with the help of a guide. Accommodation in the National Park is rustic, but the staff is friendly and the food is decent. Foregoing the beaches of Bali may not be easy for some, but the treasures of the other Indonesian islands are not to be missed. by Alex Smith

Asia Tour guide

You think of a great holiday? However, the island is also known for its terrorist attacks in recent years. Since then, the people of Bali have recovered and the island is now a hotspot for tourists from all over the world once again, especially for its beach resorts and volcano helicopter tours.

The island's ecology and geography are greatly influenced by the towering mountain range of volcanoes that dominate the island. These majestic volcanoes created Bali's stunning mountainous landscape and they occasionally regenerate its soils and help produce heavy rains that provide this resort island with precious fresh water.

The Balinese considered the island's many volcanoes, lakes and spring as sacred and treat them with respect and awe. If you are a tourist traveling to Bali for your holiday vacation, you will be awestruck with the sheer majesty of the volcanoes. These natural landscapes are major tourist attractions and many tourist go sightseeing the volcanoes on helicopter tours so that they can view the volcanoes in all its splendor and take awesome pictures. The island is still continually being formed by volcanic activities.

Bali is located over a major fault zone where the Indo-Australian plate collides with the Sunda plate. In 1963, a violent eruption on Mount Agung killed thousands of people and utterly destroyed many rice fields and irrigation network.

The dramatic lava flows on the north eastern faces of Mt Agung is the newest landforms, showing what the island may look like in ancient pre-historic time. It is a fascinating sightseeing experience, almost like a scene out of Jurassic Park.

Perhaps, the most popular volcano for tourists to visit and go sightseeing is Mount Batur. This grand old dame of a volcano sits in a giant caldera that contains a lake that is a few miles long and over a mile wide. Mount Batur is actually a very active volcano and can erupt moment as it erupted with great frequency but the eruptions are less violent these days except in a giant eruption in 1917 which claimed thousands of lives and destroyed hundreds of temples and villages.

Hiking up Mount Batur in the wee small hours of the the morning has become something of a "must do" thing for many tourists in Bali. You will need to bring along a sweater as it can get a little chilly at the volcano summit.

There is also a little coffee shop at the rim selling drinks for thirsty hikers and many children and women in flip flops balancing buckets of soft drinks on their heads scampering around trying to earn your tourist dollar. As the sun rises, you will get a picturesque view of Lombok and other surrounding islands.

One very interesting hike on Mt Batur is the climb down the inside of the crater from Penelokan to Kedisan. There are boats at Toya Bungkah Lake to take you across the lake to a village called Trunyan. This village is notorious for its mortuary traditions because instead of cremating or burying their deceased, the Trunyan villagers leave dead human bodies to decompose naturally in a designated cemetery.

Although Bali is known for rice cultivation, its volcanic soil is actually not well suited for such activities. The soil is finely textured and well drained, so water soaks through the soil rapidly and thus precious water is wasted. The solution therefore lies in repeated and vigorous ploughing which make the soil less permeable.

So if you are visiting Bali for your holiday vacations, do not miss out a sightseeing trip to view Bali's majestic volcanoes, better yet, take a helicopter tour of this spectacular tourist attraction. by Chris Chew

Having had a relatively quiet and relaxed introduction to Indonesia we were ready to make our way back to mainland Bali and get intrepid in pursuit of the Komodo dragon and to see whales in the remote village of Lamalera, in one of the eastern most parts of the archipelago. by Vineeth Purushothaman

Top Ten Majestic Places To Visit In Asia

Asia is probably one of the most enigmatic continents in the world. But how does it actually look like, and what's more important - is it the right destination for a visit or for a honeymoon? There are lots of promotional materials circulating out there done by travel companies and book publishers, but how about getting real close up views by visitors that share their own intimate perspectives for a change.

Nothing is more honest and revealing than private Bali videos all created by individual people from all over the globe that visited this island already, and made videos about that in their own language. Then uploaded it to a video web site, and now share them with the world and everyone. Free Bali videos. How convenient.

This new video site is strictly about Bali videos only. Watch what other people experienced here already, the places they visited, and what kind of people they met. What type of hotels or exclusive villas they stayed at. Now it's all online available at one single spot dedicated to the private Bali on film.

Good idea to include a search engine into that, so one can search whatever they want to see in particular. My favorites today was the search term 'Jimbaran Bali' what did show a few very relaxing videos made at that location, also 'Nusa Dua beach' did show some good results, with some of the great resorts there. Occasionally one finds some cool music in the search results that have related song titles that have "bali" in the name, as for example the title 'Bali run' of classic song by the band 'Fourplay' live in concert.

It's stunning with what some people come up with in these few minute long flicks. The 'classic Bali style' ones come with some accompanying Balinese Gamelan and flute music are very emotional touched, as they captured the Bali of the early years. What is for some travelers the 1980's and 1990's. When walking from Kuta beach to Legian beach on the main road without any car disturbing you was a reality. Unthinkable these days when everyone has a motorbike or a car.

The video website was created as a true tribute to Bali as seen by travelers, with so many interesting videos that myself spend considerable time there watching a few of these and still find new videos from some unknown 'Bali fanatics" that have great landscapes, huge waves and at times also extremely good looking people enjoying themselves having a great time.

From casual 3-days travelers that just bought a new camera, to some experienced video artists that show their skills with artistic montages zooming in on rice fields, beaches and mountain sites. Yesterday for a change I had a look at the contestants of a Miss Universe Japan video, what was basically something you would see on TV, except the girls are very beautiful here in that one. Naturally charming, like so many people visiting Bali.

Some videos are commercials done by tour and villa marketing people showing off their special villas. What's cool too, as there are so may exclusive villas now in Bali and so little time to actually go and visit each of them. So it can be really time saving and revealing to have it all presented to you while sitting comfortably and nodding with amazement or approval occasionally. Having peek previews of for example the Four Seasons in Sayan, Ubud is a pure pleasure. They really did built some marvelous villas there, all set inside the greenest jungle there possibly can exist.

And if you're into surfing, Bali waves videos are of course a must watch. From locations like Amed to the southern cliffs, it's all there. Some heavy duty pure adrenalin action videos and also some 'still impressions' that go in the opposite direction by showing only the waves coming in and going out for about 5 minutes straight. Very relaxing actually, with the original sound of the waves, makes a great screensaver for the next creative coffee break in front of the PC. And that's another interesting point to it, we cannot all live there, but we can all watch it anytime we like. Bali, truly a dream island as seen on video. Now showing on the all new Bali videos website. by Nyoman Tistawati
